Beginning Dance
One of my most favorite things I have in my life is dance. And to kick off my blog series about my most favorite things ever, dance is the perfect thing to start with given how much I am in love with it. I began taking ballet dance classes at age 4, I did for about 2 years then stopped. Then around fourth grade I began dancing again at school, and in sixth grade I retuned to taking classes at a studio. It felt so good to be back to dance after a break that lasted way to long.
In sixth grade I took a ballet class and acrobatics class, otherwise know as "acro." I followed though with these classes at the same studio through middle school, and also took dance classes at school too for an elective. This time period is when i really regained my skills as a dancer, getting better a technique and flexibility, I improved tremendously. I loved taking these classes so much and I loved how much they helped me improve as a dance; I especially loved the acrobatics dance class because it helped me learn cool moves and tricks and extremely improved my flexibility which is very important as a dancer.
Switching Studios: A Big Decision
After middle school, as I continued on to high school i decided to switch dance studios. The new studio I moved to in my freshmen tear is called Footworks Dance Studio, in which I still dance at today. Since I was moving studios I decided to take only one class only with one of my best friends, Haley; together we took a lyrical/modern class. Words can not describe how much I fell in love with this style of dance, this new dance studio, and my new dance teacher. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made, switching and taking this class because it truly reiterated my passion for dance and every week I looked forward to dance class.

Since I loved this new studio and dance class so much i decided that this is the place I want to stay at and so I have. I love dancing because it is a release; it is the only thing I have that I can truly put my heart and soul into and et my emotions and body take over and move me. When I dance, the stress and problems of my life go away; dancing, especially lyrical, lets me take all of my emotions and put them directly into the passion of when I dance.
For a specific example, last year in my lyrical modern class, my class danced to the song "Say Something" by Christina Aguilera and A Great Big World, which can be found here. The song is extremely emotion and touching, and dancing to it, for me personally, was an experience like no other.
While I was learning this dance I was going through an emotional time in my life and dancing to this song allowed me to put every single emotion I had into this dance; and it truly let me release all my pain and sadness. I was able to feel the words as I danced to them and connect with them and I have never been able to be this impassioned about something before this dance. The dance to "Say Something" was by far the most emotional dance I have ever performed and it truly reminded me why I dance
After finding my place in my new studio outside of school, in high school, in my sophomore year I decided to join the dance team. Joining the dance team was also one of the best decisions about dance I have ever made. I love everyone on my team so much and so quickly we have turned into our own little family. I love performing for the school at basketball games and pep rallies, it gives me adrenaline and makes me so excited to perform. Being on the dance team also means that I get to compete in competitors and have the opportunity with my team to win big. Competing also gives me a rush and makes me love dance even more. All in all whether I am dancing at my studio or dancing at school with my team, no matter where I am or what I am dancing, I love it all. Dance is so special to me and is a part of who I am, I am a different person while I dance; therefore it is one of my very favorite things.
